About

About the Virginia Civic Engagement Table

VCET was founded in 2008 and has been quietly doing the work behind the scenes helping our partners get stronger, talk to more voters year-round, and work together to make the systemic changes Virginia needs. In recent years we’ve been a little less quiet as we’ve added the Virginia Progressive Leadership Project, Citizen Training Academy, Advocacy Training and other programs. We’re proud to be doing the work to support and build Virginia’s progressive community.

Our Working Groups

Expanding Our Democracy

Works to ensure every Virginian’s right to vote is protected, everyone’s vote has equal weight and that our democracy operates in a way that embraces our diversity. The core of our work is voting rights and redistricting reform.

Economic Justice

We work for a society in where everyone has an equal chance to succeed regardless of where you were born, who you are or your current economic circumstances.

Criminal Justice Reform

Works to create a society that believes in second chances and the ability of each of us to change and grow. We seek a criminal justice system that works to repair the wrongs of the past and that works to create a future system that is truly fair and equitable regardless of your economic circumstances or the color of your skin.

Environment

Works to create a system that is sustainable for both people and the planet. We work to address the environmental damage done to the poorest and least powerful communities. We believe that solutions to climate change and other environmental issues must be good for all of us.
