Scenario Prompts
Please upload one file (audio or video) PER QUESTION.
1. We are three days away from Weekend Two of the program. We get an email from our contact at the venue to let us know that our meeting room location is moving to a different building a mile away, further from our expected lodging site. How would you navigate this?
Max. file size: 50 MB.
2. We’re a small team and during the program weekends, you’re like a duck in the water – building rapport with participants while trying to also do five other things to ensure the schedule remains on-time. Tell us about a time when you had to balance big picture strategic priorities in day-to-day operations. If you don’t have an experience to pull from, how would you go about that?
Max. file size: 50 MB.
3. The week before each program weekend almost always has a lot going on – playing catch-up, making workshop posters, meeting adjusting needs of participants, finding a new caterer for Friday night because they got sick, etc. Needless to say, it can be a lot of pressure and sometimes you miss something (which is totally fine~). How do you juggle multiple (often competing) priorities? And how do you personally manage incoming requests or new information?
Max. file size: 50 MB.
4. VCET is a small, scrappy organization with a start-up feel and we’re still figuring things out as we go. Being part of an interdependent team, everybody who works here needs to be able to anticipate needs & work as a self-starter. Tell us about a situation you experienced where it wasn’t clear what next steps you should take or how to solve a problem. How did you know when to escalate to bring others in and/or know what to do?
Max. file size: 50 MB.
5. As folx working towards social justice and collective liberation, we usually have the best intent, but sometimes the impact of our actions have negative consequences. Tell us about a time you realized something you were doing had unintended negative consequences from an equity perspective. How did you address that or adapt? If you don’t have an experience to pull from, how would you go about that?
Max. file size: 50 MB.
6. We prioritize giving our money to Black- & minority-owned businesses. The printing company that we typically work with can’t fulfill our order unless we pick it up in Richmond. The program weekend is in Leesburg and all our staff are already there. What do you do?
Max. file size: 50 MB.
7. It’s two weeks out from Weekend One. The VCET onboarding was not comprehensive and you feel underprepared when the program starts. How do you address the situation?
Max. file size: 50 MB.
Interview Activity
Feel free to upload any document/s or sheet/s that showcase the outcome, tasks, and process.
The summer working with VAPLP is a very fast-paced, ambitious time for VCET’s work. You’re juggling many moving parts while also having to meet multiple deadlines daily. Sometimes, you may be assigned tasks and other times you may just know our shared outcomes and have to come up with the tasks on your own. For shared language, outcomes are our ultimate goals or objectives and tasks are much smaller pieces of work (like links in a chain) to get us to that outcome. It’s the beginning of June, we just wrapped up our first program weekend. At a VAPLP Team Meeting, we discuss an upcoming objective of planning graduation. The outcome is executing a successful graduation event at the end of August to conclude Pod 9. Assume we have nothing prepared, what are all the tasks to reach that outcome? Please share a document/s or sheet/s showcasing the outcome, tasks, and process. Hint: the more detailed, the better.
